Holy Week

Last week’s Sunday Club was on the story of Jesus going to Jerusalem.

This week we are going to look at some of the events that take us up to Easter Sunday.

Mark 11 v 12 – 14 NIV

12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, ‘May no one ever eat fruit from you again.’ And his disciples heard him say it.

(When a fig tree has leaves it produces figs, it means that the tree should have had fruit)

But why would Jesus talk to the fig tree?

Just as Jesus rode on a donkey, showed that Jesus was the Messiah.

Jesus speaking to the fruitless tree, showed the people that they needed a friendship with God.

This is why we remember the Fig tree in Holy week, it is a reminder to everyone that we might be busy doing lots of things but what ‘fruit’ (what kindness and love) are we showing to others.

Remember God’s Royal law; is to love God, love others and love ourselves, when we do this we are fruitful.
